About

The Star is the Community

#BrownieVAL (pronounced "brown-knee-val") is a series of cross-community events hosted by Browntul featuring small communities bonding together in a tournament-like environment. Players come together in a cross-rank, for-fun experience where they can represent their community leaders and foster friends with their sister communities, all while working their way towards championship glory.Β

In #BrownieVAL, the star is the community, not the host. With the rise of draft-based streamer-hosted tournaments in VALORANT's North American region, players scramble to sign up months in advance without guarantees to play. Then, they have to face high-pressure situations with little familiarity around them. In #BrownieVAL, our focus on small communities allows us to provide these players opportunities in our tournaments by going back to the basics: bring your own community team to give them a taste of what it's like to play on the tournament stage together, all with the support of your friends watching our highly-rated broadcast production.Β

Every new tournament brings a unique opportunity to onboard aspiring game organizers and on-air talent to burst onto the scene. Whether you're a veteran or a newcomer to the esports scene, #BrownieVAL provides a welcoming opportunity to explore the grassroots tournament space. Try out casting and observing for the first time and learn people-management skills that can help you succeed beyond the esports space.

Broadcast

The predecessor to #BrownieVAL first started as a proof-of-concept event showing anyone can produce their own VALORANT tournament using the commonly used and free broadcasting software, OBS Studio. After becoming what is now known as #BrownieVAL, it has become known for its broadcast production making players feel like they have made it on the biggest stage.

#BrownieVAL's unique design emphasizes simplicity and an easy-to-understand viewing experience to highlight the stars of the tournament, the players. The logo, a turtle cosplaying the VALORANT agent β€œKilljoy,” is prominent across the overlay package and reminds us that new players and volunteers can combine their brain power, just like Killjoy, to bring together a wonderful experience regardless of their skill levels. A combination of red, green, brown and black colors shows professionalism and focus on making it an enjoyable viewing experience.

Our volunteers love to help out at #BrownieVAL, utilizing it as a place to learn new skills or hone their existing ones. Many move on to bigger events after their time at #BrownieVAL, helping grow the grassroots community.
